European Parliament Votes for Clear European Perspective for Ukraine

On Thursday, January 13, the European parliament voted, with 467 votes to 19, for a resolution calling for Ukraine to be given "a clear European perspective, possibly leading to EU membership."

The parliament's vote is non-binding, however, it is seen as a strong endorsement of Ukraine's membership, and is a clear sign to Kyiv that the EU's door is open.

Would-be foreign minister Boris Tarasyuk commented that the vote reflected "great sympathy among the populations and governments of democratic countries towards the Orange Revolution."
