Tomorrow, December 19 in Donetsk representatives of all churches will pray for the unity of Ukraine.
Prayer will be held near the Shevchenko monument, not from the regional administration, with the participation of representatives of the Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant churches of Ukraine. Observers of these different Christian faiths will pray together in central Donetsk for the unity of Ukraine, for the Ukrainian nation, and for the people of East Ukraine.
Approximately 5000 faithful are expected to attend." It not the first of such actions; similar public prayer has was already conducted in the early days of the Orange revolution, and spread to several
regions of Ukraine, national deputy Ivan Vasjunik explained. He has remarked that a joint prayer service for the Ukrainian people was recently held on Independence Square in Kyiv, and was also attended by representatives of all Christian faiths.
According to Ivan Vasjunika, these religious gatherings evidently intend to show both Ukraine and the world that the people of Ukraine are united." They prove that, contrary to any attempts from within on the part of authorities, or from the outside world, it will not be possible to divide our nation for reasons of territory, language or faith," he asserted.
