The results of the survey, conducted by the Razumkov Center for Economic and Political Research, were presented today at a press conference in Kyiv.

35.5% of respondents think that Kuchma is ending his presidency as an obscure politician. Only 8% think that Kuchma maintains his authority and the respect of society the end of his term. 4.6% think the opposite, and 7% are undecided.

75.9% of respondents believe that Kuchma’s actions during the last months were directed at protecting his own interests as well as the interests of his political circles. Only 11% think that his actions were dedicated to the national interests. 12.6% found it hard to answer this question.

Ihor Zhdanov, a director of the Razumkov Center, pointed out that this rating of President is a result of his position during the presidential campaign and after the second run-off. President Kuchma has not protected the constitutional rights of Ukrainian citizens to freely choose their president. Instead, he has allowed the total abuse of administrative resources on behalf of the pro-government candidate, and his actions after the second run-off often did not meet the tangible needs of Ukrainian society.

The survey was conducted from December 6-9, 2004, in 118 cities and towns in all regions of Ukraine. 2,023 people over the age of 18 participated in the survey. The margin of error is no higher than 2.3%.
