A Letter to Maidan: Ukrainian community in Rome created a “Committee for defense of civil rights in Ukraine"

Rome, 23/11/2004. Today the Ukrainian community in Rome continued its protests. A rally was held from 10.00 a.m. till 1.00 p.m. near the Ukrainian Embassy in Italy. It was attended by students, clergy, Ukrainians that work and live in Rome, as well as by many Italians.There were around one hundred participants, their number continuously growing. The orange color symbolized our victory and solidarity with all Ukrainian people.

On Monday, a Committee for the defense of civil rights in Ukraine was formed. The Committee prepared an Appeal (in Ukrainian and in Italian) sent to Italian Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini and to Ukrainian Ambassador Anatolij Orel, the copies to be sent to high rank officials in Italy and in Ukraine. This Appeal was signed by all protesters present at the rally.

The passing by Italians and police (guarding the public order) watched the protesters with approval fully supporting their demands.

The Italian press widely featured and commented Ukrainian elections subjected to mass falsifications by the Ukrainian authorities.
