Maidan

It is the 16th of the month again, and we remember not only Viktor Gonchar and Anatoly Krasovsky who disappeared in Belarus on 16 September 1999, but all those persecuted for wanting to breathe freely, speak openly and live without lies and oppression in their own native Belarus.
Throughout Belarus tonight at 8 p.m. people will be turning off their lights and burning candles in memory - and in hope.

Candles are also burning on the Internet! The Internet community “Tretiy put’” (www.3dway.org) has for the third month lit a candle in their “window”.

A wonderful example of solidarity is given by the unofficial site of the city Osypovych – www.osipovich.info. A candle was lit in solidarity in the early morning and will burn until late this evening.

In December and January the action was supported by many popular social and political sites and the organisers hope that today’s action will be on an even wider scale.

TO ALL THOSE IN KYIV!
The “Maidan” Alliance would like to invite all those who aren’t prepared to look away to join them in an important non-political, non-partisan action.

At 18.00 this evening, near the Belarus Embassy (vul. Kotsyubynskoho, 3) we are gathering to mark this month’s “Day of Solidarity with those persecuted in Belarus.
