'Maidan' is a word that is shared in Ukrainian, Hindi, Turkish, Azerbajdzhani, and some Turkic languages and which means 'a place', or 'a square'.

The word has a subtle meaning, too. For example, in any town in Ukraine, Maidan would be the place where people would go to elect mayors, to form common statements of the community in addressing the government, and to protest injustice, abuse, or discrimination. Maidan is a place where people come together to achieve common goals.
